Dear Chitty Garbage Service Customer,

We are pleased to announce that, as of October 1st, Aspen Waste Systems has acquired Chitty Garbage Service from Waste Connections of Iowa, Inc. Chitty Garbage Service has a respected history in our community, and we are excited for the employees and customers of Chitty to join the Aspen family.

Aspen Waste Systems is a privately owned, independent hauler, already operating in the Des Moines and Ames areas. In 1990, we started in Minneapolis with one truck and have grown into a regional waste and recycling hauler, while operating with the same spirit of customer service that characterized the Chitty family. In many ways you can expect business as usual, with friendly and timely pickup of your trash and recycling. However, over the coming months, there will also be some changes required to fully implement Aspen’s standard procedures. The following is more information about those changes.

Waste Connections, on behalf of Chitty Garbage Service, will be sending their last bill to you at the end of September for service provided in September. You will receive your first bill from Aspen in October. Aspen’s billing schedule is as follows.

If you are a commercial customer, Aspen bills monthly, and you will receive your first Aspen bill in early October for October service. You will continue to be billed at the beginning of each month for that same month of service (e.g., billing for November service will be mailed at the beginning of November).

If you are a residential customer, Aspen bills quarterly, and you will receive your first bill at the end of October. This first bill will include catch-up (arrears) billing for October and your regularly billed amount for the quarter that includes November, December and January. You will continue to be billed at the end of the month before the next quarter of service (e.g., billing for February, March and April service will be mailed at the end of January).

Aspen collects payment via mail, ACH or credit card. If you would like to pay by mail, please send a check to the return address on the bill with the envelope provided. We receive all mailed checks in Des Moines where local employees promptly post your payment to your account.

If you would like to pay via ACH or credit card, you will need to re-establish that payment method with Aspen by calling us at 515-974-1400, or by visiting our website at For security reasons, we are not able to transfer that information to Aspen’s billing system without you contacting us.
